Role:EnsembleGenre:ChoralKeyboardVocalEnsemble Jacques Moderne is a French classical music group that specializes in performing Renaissance and Baroque music. The group was founded in 1974 by Joël Suhubiette, who remains its artistic director to this day. Suhubiette was born in 1953 in the French town of Pau. He began his musical studies at a young age, learning to play the piano and the organ. He later studied choral conducting at the Conservatoire de Toulouse, where he was mentored by the renowned conductor Michel Piquemal. After completing his studies, Suhubiette founded Ensemble Jacques Moderne with a group of fellow musicians. The group took its name from the 16th-century composer Jacques Moderne, who was known for his chansons and motets. Ensemble Jacques Moderne quickly gained a reputation for its high-quality performances of Renaissance and Baroque music. The group's repertoire includes works by composers such as Claudio Monteverdi, Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, and William Byrd. One of the highlights of Ensemble Jacques Moderne's early career was its performance at the Festival de Saintes in 1978. The festival, which takes place in the southwestern French town of Saintes, is one of the most prestigious classical music events in France. The group's performance was well-received by both audiences and critics, and helped to establish its reputation as one of the leading ensembles in the country. Over the years, Ensemble Jacques Moderne has performed at many other major festivals and venues throughout France and Europe. The group has also released numerous recordings, including several acclaimed albums of Renaissance and Baroque music. In addition to its performances and recordings, Ensemble Jacques Moderne has also been recognized with several awards and honors. In 1999, the group was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque by the Académie Charles Cros for its recording of Monteverdi's Vespers. The following year, Suhubiette was awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government in recognition of his contributions to the arts. Despite its many achievements, Ensemble Jacques Moderne remains committed to its mission of bringing the music of the Renaissance and Baroque periods to modern audiences. The group continues to perform regularly and to explore new ways of interpreting and presenting this rich and diverse repertoire.More....
