Gabrieli Consort is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with its exceptional performances for over 30 years. The ensemble was founded in 1982 by Paul McCreesh, a British conductor and musicologist, who remains its artistic director to this day. The ensemble's name is inspired by the famous Italian composer Giovanni Gabrieli, who was a prominent figure in the Venetian school of music during the late Renaissance period. Gabrieli's music is known for its grandeur and complexity, and the ensemble strives to capture the same spirit in its performances. Gabrieli Consort is made up of a core group of around 20 singers and instrumentalists, who are all highly skilled musicians with a deep passion for classical music. One of the highlights of Gabrieli Consort's career was its performance of Handel's Messiah at the BBC Proms in 2009. Another notable performance was the ensemble's rendition of Bach's St Matthew Passion at the Barbican Centre in London in 2014. In 1995, the ensemble won a Gramophone Award for its recording of Handel's Dixit Dominus, and in 2003 it won another award for its recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor. The ensemble has also been nominated for several other awards, including a Grammy Award in 2009 for its recording of Handel's Acis and Galatea.
