Born on December 28, 1988, in Budapest, Hungary, Balog showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He was enrolled in the Béla Bartók Conservatory in Budapest, where he received his formal training in classical music. Balog's talent and dedication to music were evident from a young age, and he quickly rose through the ranks of the conservatory. He won his first piano competition at the age of nine and went on to win numerous other competitions throughout his teenage years. In 2006, he was awarded the Junior Prima Prize, one of the most prestigious awards for young artists in Hungary. After completing his studies at the conservatory, Balog continued his education at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest, where he studied under the renowned pianist and pedagogue, András Schiff. Under Schiff's guidance, Balog honed his skills as a pianist and developed a deep understanding of the music he was playing. Balog's career as a professional pianist began in earnest in 2010 when he won the Grand Prix at the International Piano Competition in Rome. He has also collaborated with many renowned conductors, such as Sir Neville Marriner, Vladimir Ashkenazy, and Iván Fischer. Balog's repertoire is vast and includes works by many of the great composers of classical music, such as Bach, Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, and Rachmaninoff. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Franz Liszt, a fellow Hungarian and one of the greatest pianists and composers of the Romantic era.
