Nils Mönkemeyer is a renowned German classical music artist who has made a name for himself as a violist. Born on November 1, 1978, in Stuttgart, Germany, Nils grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a cellist, and his mother was a pianist. As a result, Nils was exposed to classical music from a young age and began playing the violin at the age of six. However, it was not until he was 14 years old that Nils discovered his love for the viola. He was drawn to the instrument's warm and rich sound and began studying it under the guidance of his father. Nils quickly excelled on the viola and went on to study at the Musikhochschule Stuttgart and the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin. Nils' talent on the viola did not go unnoticed, and he began to receive invitations to perform at major music festivals and concerts around the world. In 2002, he won the prestigious German Music Competition, which opened up even more opportunities for him. He has since performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Philharmonic Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. One of Nils' most significant achievements was his performance at the 2006 BBC Proms in London. He was the first violist to perform as a soloist at the Proms in over 20 years and received critical acclaim for his performance. The following year, he was awarded the ECHO Klassik Award for his recording of the Brahms and Schumann viola sonatas. Nils has also collaborated with many other musicians and artists throughout his career. He has worked with renowned conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle and Daniel Barenboim and has performed with artists such as Anne-Sophie Mutter and Yo-Yo Ma. In addition to his work as a performer, Nils is also a passionate teacher and has taught at the Hanns Eisler Academy of Music in Berlin and the University of Music and Performing Arts in Munich. Despite his success, Nils remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to push himself to new heights and explore new musical territories. In 2019, he released his latest album, "Mozart & Mönkemeyer," which features his own arrangements of Mozart's piano sonatas for the viola. Nils Mönkemeyer is a true master of the viola and a beloved figure in the world of classical music. His passion, dedication, and talent have earned him numerous accolades and a place among the greats of his generation.
