Artist Info
Sophie Karthäuser is a Belgian soprano who has made a name for herself in the world of classical music. Born on October 18, 1975, in Namur, Belgium, Karthäuser grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a conductor, and her mother was a pianist. From a young age, Karthäuser showed a keen interest in music and began taking piano lessons at the age of six. As a teenager, Karthäuser discovered her love for singing and began taking voice lessons. She went on to study at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she received her diploma in singing with distinction. She then continued her studies at the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln in Germany, where she studied with renowned soprano Barbara Schlick. Karthäuser made her professional debut in 2003, singing the role of Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute" at the Théâtre Royal de la Monnaie in Brussels. This performance was a major success and marked the beginning of Karthäuser's career as a professional opera singer. Since then, Karthäuser has performed in some of the world's most prestigious opera houses and concert halls, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Opéra National de Paris, the Berlin State Opera, and the Salzburg Festival. She has worked with some of the most renowned conductors and orchestras, including Philippe Herreweghe, Marc Minkowski, and the Berlin Philharmonic. One of Karthäuser's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in Mozart's "La Clemenza di Tito" at the Salzburg Festival in 2006. Her performance was widely praised by critics, who noted her "luminous voice" and "impeccable technique." She has also received critical acclaim for her performances in Handel's "Messiah," Bach's "St. Matthew Passion," and Mozart's "Don Giovanni." In addition to her work in opera, Karthäuser is also a sought-after concert singer. She has performed in recitals and concerts throughout Europe and the United States, and has recorded several albums of lieder and art songs. Her recordings have received numerous awards and accolades, including the Diapason d'Or and the Gramophone Award. Karthäuser has also been recognized for her contributions to the world of classical music. In 2011, she was awarded the title of Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, in recognition of her artistic achievements. She has also been a guest professor at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels and the Hochschule für Musik und Tanz Köln. Despite her success, Karthäuser remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to work tirelessly to perfect her technique and bring new life to the music she performs. Her passion for music is evident in every performance, and she is widely regarded as one of the most talented and versatile sopranos of her generation.More....
