Period:RomanticModernGenre:ChamberConcertoMichel Arrignon is a renowned French clarinetist and professor of music. He was born on September 23, 1948, in Marseille, France. His father was a clarinetist and his mother was a pianist, which influenced his early interest in music. At the age of 10, he began studying the clarinet with his father and later with Guy Deplus at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris. Arrignon's talent was quickly recognized, and he won several awards and competitions, including the first prize at the International Competition of Geneva in 1971. He also won the first prize at the International Competition of Munich in 1973, which launched his international career. In 1974, Arrignon was appointed principal clarinetist of the Orchestre de Paris, a position he held for 30 years. During his tenure, he performed under the baton of some of the world's most renowned conductors, including Daniel Barenboim, Pierre Boulez, and Herbert von Karajan. He also performed as a soloist with the orchestra, playing works by Mozart, Weber, and Debussy. Arrignon's career as a soloist and chamber musician has taken him to major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Salle Pleyel in Paris. He has collaborated with many distinguished musicians, including pianist Martha Argerich, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Pinchas Zukerman. In addition to his performing career, Arrignon is also a respected teacher. He has taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris since 1986 and has also taught at the Hochschule für Musik in Munich and the Toho Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo. Many of his students have gone on to successful careers as soloists and orchestral musicians. Arrignon has recorded extensively, with over 50 recordings to his name. His recordings of the Mozart and Brahms clarinet quintets with the Tokyo String Quartet are considered definitive interpretations of these works. He has also recorded works by Debussy, Poulenc, and Stravinsky, among others. Throughout his career, Arrignon has received numerous awards and honors. In 1990, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, and in 2001, he was awarded the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur. He has also been awarded the Grand Prix du Disque and the Diapason d'Or for his recordings. Despite his many accomplishments, Arrignon remains humble and dedicated to his craft. He continues to perform, teach, and record, inspiring generations of musicians with his artistry and passion for music.More....
