She was born into a family of musicians, and her parents were both professional musicians who played the piano and the violin. Hannelore showed an interest in music from a young age and began playing the piano at the age of four. Hannelore's parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. She began taking piano lessons with renowned pianist and teacher, Jan Michiels, at the Royal Conservatory of Ghent. Hannelore's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and she quickly became one of Michiels' most promising students. Hannelore's talent was recognized by the music community, and she was invited to perform at various concerts and competitions. In 1990, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Ettlingen, Germany. This was a significant achievement for Hannelore, and it marked the beginning of her career as a professional musician.
