Period:RomanticModernGenre:ChoralThe USSR Ministry of Culture Chamber Choir was founded in 1977 by Valery Polyansky, a renowned conductor and composer. The ensemble was initially formed as a small group of professional singers who were selected from various choirs across the Soviet Union. The choir quickly gained recognition for its exceptional vocal abilities and unique sound, which was characterized by its rich harmonies and precise intonation. The choir's main members were selected for their exceptional vocal abilities and their ability to work together as a cohesive unit. The ensemble consisted of 20 to 30 singers, depending on the repertoire being performed. The choir's repertoire was diverse, ranging from early music to contemporary works, and included both sacred and secular music. One of the highlights of the choir's early career was its performance at the 1979 International Choral Festival in Cork, Ireland. The choir received critical acclaim for its performance of works by Russian composers, including Rachmaninoff and Tchaikovsky. The ensemble's performance was so well-received that it was invited to perform at the festival again in 1982. In 1983, the choir embarked on its first international tour, which included performances in France, Germany, and Switzerland. The tour was a great success, and the choir received standing ovations at every performance. The ensemble's international reputation continued to grow, and it was soon recognized as one of the finest choral ensembles in the world. Over the years, the choir has performed with many renowned conductors and soloists, including Claudio Abbado, Mstislav Rostropovich, and Plácido Domingo. The ensemble has also collaborated with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic and the London Symphony Orchestra. One of the choir's most notable performances was its rendition of Sergei Rachmaninoff's All-Night Vigil, which was recorded in 1986 and released on the Melodiya label. The recording received critical acclaim and is considered to be one of the finest recordings of the work. The choir has also received numerous awards and accolades over the years. In 1988, the ensemble was awarded the State Prize of the USSR for its contributions to the development of choral music. The choir has also been awarded the Order of Friendship of Peoples and the Order of the Red Banner of Labour. Despite the dissolution of the Soviet Union in 1991, the choir continued to perform and record under the name of the Russian State Chamber Choir. The ensemble has continued to tour extensively and has performed in many of the world's leading concert halls, including Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall. Today, the Russian State Chamber Choir is recognized as one of the finest choral ensembles in the world. The ensemble's unique sound and exceptional vocal abilities continue to captivate audiences around the globe, and its recordings are considered to be some of the finest examples of choral music ever recorded.More....
