Antony Hermus is a Dutch conductor who has made a name for himself in the classical music world. Born on May 9, 1973, in Middelburg, the Netherlands, Hermus showed an early interest in music. He began playing the piano at the age of six and later took up the trumpet. He studied at the Rotterdam Conservatory and the Royal Conservatory in The Hague, where he received his degree in conducting. Hermus began his career as a conductor in 2000, when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. He quickly gained recognition for his talent and was soon invited to conduct other orchestras in the Netherlands and abroad. In 2004, he was appointed as the principal conductor of the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, a position he held until 2011. During his tenure with the Arnhem Philharmonic Orchestra, Hermus led the orchestra in numerous performances and recordings. He also collaborated with other orchestras and soloists, including the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra, the Netherlands Radio Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra. In 2008, he conducted the world premiere of the opera "The Tempest" by Dutch composer Michel van der Aa. In 2011, Hermus was appointed as the principal conductor of the North Netherlands Orchestra, a position he held until 2019. During his time with the orchestra, he led them in performances of a wide range of repertoire, from classical to contemporary. He also collaborated with soloists such as pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet and violinist Simone Lamsma. Hermus has also conducted numerous other orchestras around the world, including the BBC Philharmonic, the Royal Scottish National Orchestra, the Orchestre National de Lille, and the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. He has also conducted at major music festivals, such as the BBC Proms, the Edinburgh International Festival, and the Holland Festival. In addition to his work as a conductor, Hermus is also a composer. He has written several works for orchestra, including "The Four Elements" and "The Four Seasons."
