Born on October 29, 1958, in Rotterdam, Netherlands, van Dijk grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a church organist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, van Dijk showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. Van Dijk's passion for music led him to study at the Rotterdam Conservatory, where he received his degree in organ performance in 1982. He continued his studies at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he specialized in harpsichord performance.
