Born in Canada, Welch began his musical journey at a young age and has since become one of the most sought-after tenors in the industry. Welch was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1976. He grew up in a musical family and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His parents were both music teachers, and his father was a professional pianist. Welch began singing in choirs and taking piano lessons at a young age, and it quickly became clear that he had a natural talent for music. As a teenager, Welch began to focus more on singing and joined the Vancouver Children's Choir. He also began taking private voice lessons and participating in local competitions.
