Clas Pehrsson is a renowned Swedish musician and conductor who has made significant contributions to the world of classical music. Born on August 12, 1942, in Stockholm, Sweden, Pehrsson grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Pehrsson showed a keen interest in music and began playing the recorder at the age of six. Pehrsson's musical education began at the Adolf Fredrik Music School in Stockholm, where he studied the recorder, flute, and piano. He later went on to study at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm, where he received a degree in music education. During his time at the college, Pehrsson became interested in early music and began studying the recorder with the renowned recorder player, Frans Brüggen. After completing his studies, Pehrsson began his career as a music teacher and conductor. He taught music at several schools in Sweden and conducted various choirs and orchestras. In 1969, he founded the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, which became one of the leading early music ensembles in Europe. Under Pehrsson's leadership, the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble gained international recognition for their performances of Baroque music. The ensemble performed at major music festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Edinburgh International Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Royal Albert Hall in London. In addition to his work with the Drottningholm Baroque Ensemble, Pehrsson has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician. He has recorded numerous albums of Baroque music, including works by Bach, Handel, and Vivaldi. His recordings have received critical acclaim and have won several awards, including the Gramophone Award and the Diapason d'Or.
