He was born into a family of musicians, and his father was a violinist in the Kiev Opera Orchestra. Boris showed an early interest in music and began playing the violin at the age of six. However, he soon switched to the viola, which became his primary instrument. In 1917, Boris and his family moved to Moscow, where he continued his music education at the Moscow Conservatory. He studied under the tutelage of some of the most prominent musicians of the time, including Mikhail Gnesin and Konstantin Igumnov. Boris graduated from the conservatory in 1922 and began his professional career as a violist. Boris Kroyt's career took off in the 1920s when he joined the Beethoven Quartet, one of the most famous string quartets of the time. The quartet was founded in 1923 and consisted of four members, including Boris Kroyt. The quartet quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional performances and became one of the most sought-after ensembles in the world. The Beethoven Quartet performed extensively throughout Europe and the United States, and their performances were highly acclaimed by both audiences and critics. They were known for their impeccable technique, musicality, and interpretation of classical music. The quartet's repertoire included works by Beethoven, Mozart, Haydn, and other classical composers.
