He was born into a family of musicians, and his father, Abram Moiseiwitsch, was a well-known violinist. Benno began playing the piano at a young age and showed exceptional talent. He received his first piano lessons from his mother, Anna Moiseiwitsch, and later studied under the tutelage of Felix Blumenfeld, a famous pianist and composer. In 1904, at the age of 14, Moiseiwitsch made his debut performance in Berlin, Germany. He received critical acclaim for his performance, and this marked the beginning of his successful career as a pianist. In 1908, he moved to England and became a British citizen in 1919. Moiseiwitsch's career was marked by numerous highlights, including his performance of Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 with the composer's nephew, Vladimir Davydov, conducting the London Symphony Orchestra in 1919. This performance was a huge success and established Moiseiwitsch as one of the leading pianists of his time. Moiseiwitsch was also known for his interpretation of the works of Chopin, and his performance of Chopin's Piano Concerto No. 2 with the London Symphony Orchestra in 1927 was particularly memorable. He also performed with other leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra.
