Yakov Kasman is a renowned classical pianist who has captivated audiences around the world with his virtuosic performances and deep musicality. Born in Orel, Russia in 1967, Kasman showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of six. His talent was quickly recognized, and he went on to win numerous competitions and awards throughout his youth. Kasman's musical education was rigorous and comprehensive. He studied at the Moscow Conservatory with such esteemed teachers as Lev Naumov and Mikhail Pletnev, and later at the Juilliard School in New York with Adele Marcus. He also participated in masterclasses with some of the greatest pianists of the 20th century, including Vladimir Ashkenazy, Lazar Berman, and Murray Perahia. Kasman's early career was marked by a string of impressive victories in international piano competitions. In 1990, he won the Gold Medal at the Seventh Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, one of the most prestigious competitions in the world. This victory launched his career and brought him to the attention of audiences and critics alike. Since then, Kasman has performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He has also given recitals in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall, the Royal Albert Hall, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. Kasman's repertoire is wide-ranging and includes works by many of the great composers of the classical tradition, from Bach and Mozart to Beethoven and Chopin. He is particularly known for his interpretations of the music of Rachmaninoff, whose works he has recorded extensively. In addition to his performing career, Kasman is also a dedicated teacher. He has taught at the University of Alabama since 1997, where he is a professor of piano and the director of the school's piano program.
