The Talich Quartet is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences with their exceptional performances for over 50 years. The quartet was founded in 1964 by Jan Talich Sr., a renowned violinist and conductor, and his son Jan Talich Jr., who also plays the violin. They have also performed at numerous music festivals, including the Prague Spring Festival, the Salzburg Festival, and the Edinburgh Festival. One of the highlights of the Talich Quartet's career was their performance at the 1986 Prague Spring Festival, where they played Beethoven's String Quartet No. 14 in C-sharp minor, Op. 131. The performance was widely acclaimed and is considered one of the quartet's most memorable performances. Another notable performance was their 1991 performance at the Salzburg Festival, where they played Mozart's String Quartet No. 19 in C major, K. 465, also known as the "Dissonance" quartet. The Talich Quartet has received numerous awards and accolades throughout their career. In 1978, they won the Grand Prix du Disque for their recording of Dvořák's String Quartet No. 12 in F major, Op. 96, also known as the "American" quartet. They have also won the Diapason d'Or, the Choc de la Musique, and the Gramophone Award for their recordings. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Talich Quartet is also committed to promoting classical music and supporting young musicians. They have established the Talich Quartet Foundation, which provides scholarships and support to young musicians in the Czech Republic. They also regularly hold masterclasses and workshops for young musicians.
