Jordi Masó is a renowned classical pianist from Spain, known for his virtuosic performances and deep understanding of the music he plays. Born in Barcelona in 1963, Masó showed an early interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of six. He quickly demonstrated a natural talent for the instrument, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion for music. Masó began his formal musical education at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, where he studied under the guidance of renowned pianist Alicia de Larrocha. Under her tutelage, Masó developed a deep appreciation for the music of Spanish composers such as Isaac Albéniz and Manuel de Falla, as well as the works of other great composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. After completing his studies at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu, Masó continued his education at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, Germany. There, he studied with the renowned pianist Karl-Heinz Kämmerling, who helped him refine his technique and deepen his understanding of the music he played. Throughout his career, Masó has performed extensively throughout Europe, Asia, and the Americas, earning critical acclaim for his virtuosic performances and his ability to bring out the emotional depth and complexity of the music he plays. He has performed with some of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic, and has collaborated with many of the world's leading conductors, including Sir Simon Rattle, Daniel Barenboim, and Zubin Mehta. One of Masó's most notable performances was his 1995 debut at the Carnegie Hall in New York City, where he performed a program of works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Albéniz to critical acclaim. The New York Times praised his "impeccable technique and deep musicality," while the New Yorker called him "a pianist of rare sensitivity and insight." Masó has also been recognized for his recordings, which have earned numerous awards and accolades. His recording of the complete piano works of Isaac Albéniz, released in 2003, was hailed as a landmark achievement and earned him the prestigious Premio Nacional de Música award from the Spanish government. He has also recorded the complete piano works of Manuel de Falla, as well as works by Beethoven, Chopin, and Mozart. In addition to his performing and recording career, Masó is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. He has taught at the Conservatori Superior de Música del Liceu in Barcelona, as well as at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Hannover, and has given masterclasses and workshops throughout the world. He is known for his patient and insightful approach to teaching, and for his ability to inspire his students to reach their full potential as musicians. Throughout his career, Jordi Masó has remained committed to the art of classical music, and to the power of music to inspire and uplift the human spirit. His performances and recordings have earned him a place among the world's leading classical pianists, and his dedication to teaching and mentoring the next generation of musicians ensures that his legacy will continue for many years to come.
