Artist Info
Genre:ChoralVocalLisa Milne is a Scottish soprano who has established herself as one of the most versatile and accomplished classical music artists of her generation. Born on August 31, 1962, in Aberdeen, Scotland, Milne grew up in a musical family and began singing at a young age. She attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama in Glasgow, where she studied under Patricia MacMahon and Margaret Izatt. Milne's career as a professional singer began in the early 1990s, when she won the Kathleen Ferrier Memorial Scholarship and the Royal Overseas League Singing Competition. These victories led to engagements with major opera companies and orchestras throughout the UK and Europe. In 1994, she made her debut with the English National Opera as Pamina in Mozart's "The Magic Flute," a role she would go on to perform many times throughout her career. Over the years, Milne has become known for her interpretations of a wide range of repertoire, from Baroque and Classical works to contemporary music. She has worked with many of the world's leading conductors and orchestras, including Sir Simon Rattle, Sir Colin Davis, and the London Symphony Orchestra. In addition to her work in opera, she has also performed in concert halls and recital venues around the world. One of Milne's most notable performances was her portrayal of the title role in Richard Strauss's "Arabella" at the Royal Opera House in London in 2003. The production, directed by David McVicar, was widely praised for its innovative staging and Milne's nuanced and expressive singing. She also received critical acclaim for her performances in Benjamin Britten's "The Turn of the Screw" and "Peter Grimes," as well as Mozart's "Don Giovanni" and "The Marriage of Figaro." Milne has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career, including the Royal Philharmonic Society's Singer of the Year award in 2003 and the Scottish Music Award for Classical Music in 2011. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2005 for her services to music. In addition to her work as a performer, Milne is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has served as a vocal coach and lecturer at the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama, and has given masterclasses and workshops around the world. She is passionate about helping young singers develop their skills and find their own unique voices. Milne's recordings include a wide range of repertoire, from Handel and Mozart to contemporary works by composers such as James MacMillan and Judith Weir. She has recorded for major labels such as Chandos, Hyperion, and Deutsche Grammophon, and her recordings have received critical acclaim and numerous awards. Throughout her career, Lisa Milne has been praised for her beautiful voice, expressive singing, and versatility as a performer. She has become one of the most respected and beloved classical music artists of her generation, and her contributions to the world of opera and concert music will continue to be celebrated for many years to come.More....
