Kruysen was born into a family of musicians, and his parents were both professional singers. His father, Jan Kruysen, was a well-known tenor, and his mother, Annie Hermes, was a soprano. Kruysen began his musical training at a young age, and he showed a natural talent for singing. He studied at the Amsterdam Conservatory, where he received a degree in vocal performance. After completing his studies, Kruysen began his career as a professional singer, and he quickly gained a reputation as one of the most talented baritones of his generation.
