She was born on October 18, 1955, in New York City, USA. Her parents were both musicians, and her father was a composer. From a young age, Feldman was exposed to music and began singing in choirs and playing the piano. Feldman attended the High School of Music and Art in New York City, where she studied voice and piano. She then went on to study at the Juilliard School of Music, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree. After completing her studies, Feldman moved to Europe to pursue her career in opera. Feldman's career took off in the early 1980s when she began performing with the renowned early music ensemble, Concerto Vocale, under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe. She quickly gained a reputation as a leading interpreter of Baroque music, and her performances were praised for their clarity, precision, and emotional depth. One of Feldman's most significant performances was in 1985 when she sang the role of Euridice in Monteverdi's opera, Orfeo, at the Salzburg Festival. Her performance was widely acclaimed, and she was praised for her beautiful voice and dramatic interpretation of the role.
