Born on August 15, 1945, in Amsterdam, Boeke grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a composer, and his mother was a pianist. Boeke started playing the recorder at the age of six and later learned to play the violin and piano. Boeke studied music at the Sweelinck Conservatory in Amsterdam, where he specialized in the recorder. He later continued his studies at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis in Switzerland, where he studied with the renowned recorder player Frans Brüggen. During his time in Switzerland, Boeke also studied conducting with Paul Sacher. In 1972, Boeke founded the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet, a recorder quartet that gained international recognition for its innovative and virtuosic performances. The quartet's repertoire included music from the Renaissance and Baroque periods, as well as contemporary music. The quartet performed at major music festivals and concert halls around the world, including the Edinburgh Festival, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Lincoln Center in New York. In addition to his work with the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet, Boeke has also performed as a soloist and chamber musician. He has collaborated with many renowned musicians, including Gustav Leonhardt, Ton Koopman, and Frans Brüggen. Boeke has recorded over 50 albums, including solo recordings and recordings with the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet. Boeke is also a respected conductor and has led many orchestras and ensembles, including the Netherlands Chamber Orchestra, the Orchestra of the Eighteenth Century, and the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra.
