Edvard Grieg Kor is a Norwegian classical music choir that was founded in 1988 by conductor Håkon Matti Skrede. The choir is named after the famous Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg, who is known for his contributions to the Romantic era of classical music. The choir was formed with the aim of promoting Norwegian choral music and has since become one of the most renowned choirs in Norway. The choir consists of around 30 members, all of whom are professional singers with extensive experience in choral music. Edvard Grieg Kor has performed at numerous concerts and festivals both in Norway and abroad. The choir has collaborated with many renowned conductors and orchestras, including the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra, the Bergen Philharmonic Orchestra, and the Norwegian Radio Orchestra. One of the highlights of the choir's career was their performance at the opening ceremony of the 1994 Winter Olympics in Lillehammer, Norway. The choir performed a specially commissioned piece by Norwegian composer Ketil Hvoslef, which was broadcast to millions of viewers around the world. Edvard Grieg Kor has also won several awards for their performances and recordings. In 2002, the choir won the Spellemannprisen, which is the Norwegian equivalent of the Grammy Awards, for their recording of the choral works of Norwegian composer Knut Nystedt. The choir has also recorded several albums of Norwegian choral music, including works by Edvard Grieg, Johan Svendsen, and Ola Gjeilo. Their recordings have received critical acclaim and have been praised for their technical excellence and musicality. Edvard Grieg Kor continues to be a leading force in Norwegian choral music and is dedicated to promoting the rich tradition of Norwegian music to audiences around the world.
