Thomas Dunford is a French classical music artist who has made a name for himself as one of the most talented lutenists of his generation. Born in Paris in 1988, Dunford grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from a young age. His father, Alain Dunford, is a renowned lutenist and his mother, Marie-Claire Alain, was a celebrated organist. Dunford began playing the lute at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. He studied under his father and also received training from other notable lutenists such as Hopkinson Smith and Paul O'Dette. Dunford's early performances were well-received and he began to gain recognition as a rising star in the classical music world. In 2006, Dunford won first prize at the prestigious International Young Artists' Presentation (PIPA) competition in Antwerp, Belgium.
