Artist Info
Role:ConductorReinoud Van Mechelen is a Belgian tenor and one of the most promising young classical music artists of his generation. Born on May 1, 1987, in Ghent, Belgium, he grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to classical music from an early age. His father was a conductor and his mother a pianist, and they encouraged him to pursue a career in music. Van Mechelen began his musical education at the age of six, studying piano and violin. However, he soon discovered his passion for singing and began taking voice lessons. He attended the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where he studied with Dina Grossberger and Greta De Reyghere. He also studied with Howard Crook at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris. Van Mechelen made his professional debut in 2010, singing the role of the Evangelist in Bach's St. John Passion with the ensemble Vox Luminis. He quickly gained recognition for his clear, agile voice and his ability to convey the emotional depth of the music he performed. He has since performed with some of the world's leading orchestras and ensembles, including Les Arts Florissants, the Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment, and the Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin. One of Van Mechelen's most notable performances was his portrayal of the title role in Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie at the Opéra Comique in Paris in 2013. The production, directed by Ivan Alexandre, was widely praised for its innovative staging and Van Mechelen's powerful performance. He has also received critical acclaim for his performances in Handel's Messiah, Bach's Mass in B Minor, and Mozart's Requiem. In addition to his work as a performer, Van Mechelen is also a passionate advocate for early music. He has collaborated with leading scholars and musicologists to research and perform music from the Baroque and Renaissance periods, and has worked to bring this music to a wider audience. He has also recorded several albums, including a critically acclaimed recording of Bach's St. John Passion with Vox Luminis. Van Mechelen has received numerous awards and honors for his work as a performer. In 2014, he was awarded the Prix Jeune Soliste des Radios Francophones Publiques, which recognizes young classical music artists from French-speaking countries. He was also a finalist in the prestigious Queen Elisabeth Competition in 2014, and was awarded the Prix de la Critique in 2015 for his performance in Rameau's Hippolyte et Aricie. Despite his young age, Reinoud Van Mechelen has already established himself as one of the most exciting and talented classical music artists of his generation. With his clear, expressive voice and his deep commitment to the music he performs, he is sure to continue to captivate audiences around the world for many years to come.More....
