Period:BaroqueClassicalGenre:ChamberConcertoPierre Pierlot was a French oboist who was born on April 22, 1921, in Paris, France. He was the son of a music teacher and began playing the oboe at a young age. Pierlot's father was his first teacher, and he later studied with Fernand Gillet at the Paris Conservatory. Pierlot's career as a professional musician began in 1942 when he joined the orchestra of the Paris Opera. He quickly gained a reputation as one of the finest oboists in France and was soon invited to perform with other orchestras throughout Europe. In 1952, Pierlot became the principal oboist of the Orchestre de la Société des Concerts du Conservatoire, a position he held for over 20 years. During this time, he also taught at the Paris Conservatory, where he trained many of the next generation of French oboists. Pierlot was known for his beautiful tone and expressive playing, and he was particularly admired for his interpretations of Baroque music. He was a founding member of the Ensemble Baroque de Paris, which specialized in performing music from the Baroque era on period instruments. One of Pierlot's most famous performances was his recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concerto No. 2 with the Ensemble Baroque de Paris. The recording, which was released in 1965, is still considered one of the definitive interpretations of the piece. Pierlot also performed as a soloist with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the Berlin Philharmonic, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the New York Philharmonic. He was a frequent guest at music festivals throughout Europe and the United States. In addition to his performing career, Pierlot was also a respected teacher. He taught at the Paris Conservatory for over 30 years and was known for his rigorous approach to teaching. Many of his students went on to have successful careers as oboists in their own right. Pierlot's contributions to the world of classical music were recognized with numerous awards and honors. In 1976, he was awarded the Legion of Honor, one of France's highest honors. He was also awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for his recordings of Bach's oboe concertos. Pierlot continued to perform and teach until his death on June 12, 2000, at the age of 79. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest oboists of the 20th century and a beloved teacher who inspired generations of musicians.More....
