Born in Milan, Italy in 1977, she showed an early aptitude for music and began studying piano at the age of four. Her parents, both music lovers, recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. As a child, Lucia studied with some of the most respected piano teachers in Italy, including Maria Tipo and Maurizio Pollini. She quickly gained a reputation as a prodigy, winning numerous competitions and performing in prestigious venues throughout Europe. At the age of 12, she made her debut with the Milan Symphony Orchestra, playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 in D minor. Lucia's talent continued to blossom throughout her teenage years, and she was soon recognized as one of the most promising young pianists of her generation. In 1995, she won first prize at the International Piano Competition in Geneva, Switzerland, cementing her status as a rising star in the classical music world. Over the next few years, Lucia continued to build her career, performing in major concert halls across Europe and Asia. She made her debut at the Salzburg Festival in 1998, playing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 4 with the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra. The performance was a triumph, earning her rave reviews and establishing her as one of the most exciting young pianists of her time. In 2001, Lucia made her debut in the United States, playing at the Lincoln Center in New York City. The concert was a sell-out, and critics hailed her as a "pianistic powerhouse" with a "rare combination of technical brilliance and emotional depth." She went on to perform with many of the leading orchestras in the US, including the Boston Symphony Orchestra, the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Throughout her career, Lucia has been known for her passionate and deeply expressive playing. She has a particular affinity for the music of Chopin, and her performances of his works are widely regarded as some of the finest interpretations of his music. She has also championed the music of lesser-known composers, such as the Italian pianist and composer Ferruccio Busoni, whose works she has recorded to critical acclaim. In addition to her performing career, Lucia is also a dedicated teacher and mentor. She has taught masterclasses at some of the world's leading music schools, including the Juilliard School in New York and the Royal Academy of Music in London. She is known for her warm and engaging teaching style, and many of her students have gone on to successful careers in music. Lucia has received numerous awards and honors throughout her career. In 2003, she was awarded the prestigious Avery Fisher Career Grant, which recognizes outstanding young musicians and provides financial support to help them develop their careers. She has also been awarded the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic, one of the highest honors that can be bestowed upon an Italian citizen. Despite her many accomplishments, Lucia remains humble and dedicated to her craft. She continues to perform regularly, both as a soloist and with orchestras around the world.
