He was the son of a music teacher and began his musical education at a young age. He showed great promise as a pianist and was soon performing in public concerts. In 1895, Ronald made his debut as a conductor with the Royal Philharmonic Society. He quickly gained a reputation as a talented conductor and was appointed as the conductor of the London Symphony Orchestra in 1915. He held this position until 1919 and then went on to conduct the New York Philharmonic Orchestra from 1920 to 1922. Ronald was known for his interpretations of the works of Beethoven, Brahms, and Wagner. He was also a champion of British composers and premiered many works by composers such as Edward Elgar, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Gustav Holst. One of Ronald's most notable performances was his 1909 performance of Elgar's "Enigma Variations" at the Leeds Festival. This performance was a turning point in Elgar's career and helped to establish him as one of Britain's leading composers. Ronald was also a prolific recording artist and made many recordings with the London Symphony Orchestra and other orchestras. His recordings of the works of Elgar and Vaughan Williams are still highly regarded today. In addition to his work as a conductor, Ronald was also a respected pianist. He often performed as a soloist with orchestras and made many recordings as a pianist. Throughout his career, Ronald received many honors and awards. He was knighted in 1919 for his services to music and was awarded the Gold Medal of the Royal Philharmonic Society in 1928. He was also awarded the Order of the Dannebrog by the King of Denmark in 1930. Ronald continued to conduct and perform until his death on August 14, 1938.
