Lars Anders Tomter is a renowned Norwegian violist who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born on August 27, 1960, in Hamar, Norway, Tomter grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. Tomter started playing the violin at the age of six, but he switched to the viola when he was 14 years old. Tomter's musical education began at the Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo, where he studied with Leif Jørgensen. He later continued his studies at the Conservatoire de Musique de Genève in Switzerland with Bruno Giuranna. Tomter's talent was evident from an early age, and he quickly established himself as a promising young musician. In 1986, Tomter won the prestigious Lionel Tertis International Viola Competition, which marked the beginning of his international career.
