Andersen began playing the piano at the age of four and showed exceptional talent from an early age. She studied at the Juilliard School of Music in New York City, where she received her Bachelor of Music degree in 1953. After completing her studies, Andersen began her career as a concert pianist, performing in recitals and with orchestras throughout the United States and Europe. She quickly gained a reputation as a virtuoso pianist with a unique style and a deep understanding of the music she played. One of the highlights of Andersen's early career was her performance at the Tanglewood Music Festival in 1955. She was invited to perform as a soloist with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, under the direction of conductor Charles Munch. The performance was a great success, and Andersen received critical acclaim for her interpretation of the Brahms Piano Concerto No. 2. Over the next few years, Andersen continued to perform in concerts and recitals, building a loyal following of fans and admirers. She also began to record her performances, releasing several albums of classical piano music that showcased her unique style and virtuosity. In 1960, Andersen was invited to perform at the Edinburgh International Festival in Scotland. This was a major milestone in her career, as the festival was one of the most prestigious classical music events in the world. Andersen's performance was a great success, and she received a standing ovation from the audience. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Andersen continued to perform in concerts and recitals, both in the United States and abroad.
