Artist Info
Camerata Trajectina is a Dutch classical music ensemble that specializes in performing music from the Dutch Golden Age. The ensemble was founded in 1974 by Louis Peter Grijp, a musicologist and lutenist, and Jan Nuchelmans, a recorder player. The group takes its name from the Latin word "camerata," which means "chamber music," and "Trajectina," which refers to the city of Utrecht, where the ensemble is based. The founding members of Camerata Trajectina were all students at Utrecht University, where they were studying musicology. They shared a passion for early music and a desire to explore the rich musical heritage of the Netherlands. The group began by performing at local concerts and festivals, and quickly gained a reputation for their innovative and engaging performances. Over the years, Camerata Trajectina has grown to become one of the leading ensembles in the field of early music. The group's repertoire includes music from the 16th, 17th, and 18th centuries, with a particular focus on the music of the Dutch Golden Age. The ensemble performs on a wide range of instruments, including lute, recorder, viola da gamba, harpsichord, and various types of percussion. One of the highlights of Camerata Trajectina's career was their performance at the 1980 Holland Festival, where they presented a program of music from the Dutch Golden Age. The concert was a critical and commercial success, and helped to establish the group as one of the leading ensembles in the field of early music. In addition to their performances, Camerata Trajectina has also made a number of recordings over the years. Their first album, "O Nederland, let op uw saeck," was released in 1977 and featured music from the Dutch Revolt. The album was a critical success and helped to establish the group's reputation as experts in the field of early Dutch music. Over the years, Camerata Trajectina has received numerous awards and accolades for their work. In 1994, the group was awarded the prestigious Edison Award for their album "De Zeven Provinciën," which featured music from the Dutch Republic. The group has also been recognized for their contributions to the field of early music, and has received awards from organizations such as the Dutch Early Music Network and the Utrecht Early Music Festival. Today, Camerata Trajectina continues to perform and record music from the Dutch Golden Age, and remains one of the leading ensembles in the field of early music. The group's current members include Erik Beijer (baritone), Saskia Coolen (recorder), Louis Peter Grijp (lute), and Arjen Verhage (viola da gamba). Their performances are known for their energy, passion, and commitment to bringing the music of the past to life for modern audiences.More....
