Ileana Cotrubas was a Romanian soprano who was born on June 9, 1939, in Galati, Romania. She was one of the most renowned opera singers of the 20th century, known for her exquisite voice and dramatic performances. Cotrubas began her musical journey at a young age, studying piano and voice at the Conservatory of Bucharest. She later continued her studies at the Vienna Academy of Music, where she honed her skills and developed her unique style. Cotrubas made her professional debut in 1965 at the Vienna State Opera, where she performed the role of Zerlina in Mozart's "Don Giovanni." Her performance was met with critical acclaim, and she quickly became a sought-after performer in the opera world. She went on to perform at some of the most prestigious opera houses in the world, including the Metropolitan Opera in New York, the Royal Opera House in London, and La Scala in Milan.
