The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra is a renowned classical music ensemble that has been captivating audiences around the world for over five decades. Founded in 1960, the orchestra has become one of the most respected and sought-after chamber orchestras in Europe, known for its exceptional musicianship and innovative programming. The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra was founded by Saulius Sondeckis, a prominent Lithuanian conductor and violinist. Sondeckis had a vision of creating a chamber orchestra that would showcase the talents of Lithuania's finest musicians and promote the country's rich musical heritage. With this goal in mind, he assembled a group of talented musicians and began rehearsing in the Lithuanian National Philharmonic Hall. One of the highlights of the Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra's career was its performance at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, South Korea. The orchestra was invited to perform at the opening ceremony, where it played a stirring rendition of the Olympic Hymn. This performance was seen by millions of people around the world and helped to cement the orchestra's reputation as one of the finest chamber orchestras in the world. The Lithuanian Chamber Orchestra has also been recognized for its exceptional recordings. In 1991, the orchestra won a Grammy Award for its recording of Mozart's Piano Concertos Nos. 20 and 21 with pianist Mitsuko Uchida. The orchestra has premiered many works by Lithuanian composers, including Bronius Kutavicius, Osvaldas Balakauskas, and Vytautas Barkauskas.
