Artist Info
Genre:ChamberThe Beaux Arts Trio was a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1955 by pianist Menahem Pressler, violinist Daniel Guilet, and cellist Bernard Greenhouse. The trio was named after the Beaux Arts School in Paris, which was known for its emphasis on classical art and music. The Beaux Arts Trio quickly gained a reputation for their exceptional musicianship and their ability to perform a wide range of classical music repertoire. They were particularly known for their interpretations of works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schubert, but they also performed works by contemporary composers such as Leonard Bernstein and Samuel Barber. Over the years, the Beaux Arts Trio underwent several personnel changes. Daniel Guilet left the group in 1969 and was replaced by violinist Isidore Cohen. Cohen remained with the group until 1992, when he was replaced by violinist Ida Kavafian. Bernard Greenhouse remained with the group until 1987, when he was replaced by cellist Peter Wiley. Despite these changes, the Beaux Arts Trio continued to perform at the highest level and remained one of the most respected and beloved classical music ensembles in the world. They performed in major concert halls around the world, including Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Albert Hall in London, and the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam. One of the highlights of the Beaux Arts Trio's career was their performance of the complete cycle of Beethoven's piano trios at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 1978. The cycle was performed over the course of six concerts and was widely praised for its exceptional musicianship and interpretation. The Beaux Arts Trio also received numerous awards and honors throughout their career. They were awarded the Grammy Award for Best Chamber Music Performance in 1979 for their recording of Beethoven's piano trios. They were also awarded the Avery Fisher Prize in 1987, which is considered one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. In addition to their performances and recordings, the Beaux Arts Trio was also known for their dedication to music education. They frequently gave masterclasses and workshops for young musicians and were committed to passing on their knowledge and expertise to the next generation of classical musicians. The Beaux Arts Trio disbanded in 2008, after more than 50 years of performing together. Their legacy lives on, however, through their numerous recordings and the countless musicians they inspired and influenced over the years. They will always be remembered as one of the greatest classical music ensembles of all time.More....
