The Städtischen Oper Berlin Orchestra, also known as the Berlin State Opera Orchestra, is a classical music ensemble based in Berlin, Germany. The orchestra was founded in 1742 and has since become one of the most renowned orchestras in the world. The orchestra was originally founded as the Court Opera Orchestra by Frederick the Great, King of Prussia. The ensemble was initially composed of 24 musicians and was responsible for providing music for the royal court. Over time, the orchestra grew in size and reputation, and by the early 19th century, it had become one of the most important orchestras in Europe. Throughout its history, the Städtischen Oper Berlin Orchestra has been led by many notable conductors, including Wilhelm Furtwängler, Herbert von Karajan, and Daniel Barenboim.
