John Beck is a renowned classical music artist who has made a significant contribution to the world of music. He was born on August 10, 1943, in Allentown, Pennsylvania, USA. From a young age, Beck showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of five. He later switched to percussion and began studying under the tutelage of his father, William Beck, who was a percussionist with the Allentown Symphony Orchestra. Beck attended the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where he earned a Bachelor of Music degree in 1965. He then went on to earn a Master of Music degree from the same institution in 1966. During his time at Eastman, Beck studied under the renowned percussionist William Street and was a member of the Eastman Wind Ensemble and the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra. After completing his studies, Beck joined the United States Marine Band in Washington, D.C., where he served as a percussionist from 1966 to 1969. He then joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as a percussionist and timpanist, a position he held from 1969 to 1976. In 1976, Beck joined the faculty of the Eastman School of Music as a professor of percussion. He remained in this position until his retirement in 2008. During his tenure at Eastman, Beck taught countless students and was highly regarded for his expertise and dedication to his craft. Beck has also been an active performer throughout his career. He has performed with numerous orchestras and ensembles, including the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra, the Eastman Wind Ensemble, and the Boston Symphony Orchestra.
