Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal, also known as the Montreal Metropolitan Orchestra, is a Canadian classical music ensemble based in Montreal, Quebec. Founded in 1981 by conductor and pianist Yannick Nézet-Séguin, the orchestra has become one of the most prominent and respected ensembles in Canada and around the world. The orchestra's origins can be traced back to Nézet-Séguin's early years as a student at the Conservatoire de musique du Québec à Montréal. In 1981, he founded the Orchestre Métropolitain du Grand Montréal as a way to provide young musicians with an opportunity to perform in a professional setting.
