Joseph Rescigno is a renowned conductor and pianist in the world of classical music. Born on August 22, 1948, in New York City, Rescigno grew up in a family of musicians. His father was a violinist, and his mother was a pianist. From a young age, Rescigno showed a keen interest in music and began playing the piano at the age of four. Rescigno's musical education began at the Juilliard School, where he studied piano with Rosina Lhevinne and conducting with Jean Morel. He later continued his studies at the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia, where he studied with Max Rudolf and Otto-Werner Mueller. Rescigno's career as a conductor began in 1975 when he was appointed as the assistant conductor of the New York City Opera. He quickly rose through the ranks and became the principal conductor of the company in 1981. In addition to his work as a conductor and pianist, Rescigno is also a respected educator. He has taught at the Juilliard School, the Curtis Institute of Music, and the Manhattan School of Music. He has also served as the music director of the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee and the Cincinnati Opera. Today, Rescigno continues to be an active performer and conductor. He is currently the music director of the Lyric Opera of Kansas City and the principal conductor of the Florentine Opera Company.
