Founded in 1945 by Frieder Bernius, the ensemble has become one of the most respected and sought-after choirs in the world. The ensemble's founding was a result of Bernius' passion for choral music and his desire to create a professional choir that would perform at the highest level. He gathered a group of talented singers from the Stuttgart area and began rehearsing with them. The ensemble's name, Kammerchor Stuttgart, translates to "Stuttgart Chamber Choir" in English, reflecting its origins in the city of Stuttgart. One of the highlights of Kammerchor Stuttgart's career was its performance of Bach's St. Matthew Passion at the Berlin Philharmonic in 2000. The performance was conducted by Sir Simon Rattle and featured a star-studded cast of soloists, including Juliane Banse and Thomas Quasthoff. The performance was widely acclaimed and cemented Kammerchor Stuttgart's reputation as one of the world's leading choirs. Kammerchor Stuttgart has also received numerous awards and accolades throughout its history. In 1998, the ensemble was awarded the Echo Klassik award for its recording of Bach's Mass in B Minor.
