She was the daughter of a music teacher and grew up in a musical family. Her father was a violinist, and her mother was a pianist. Eva started playing the piano at a young age and showed great talent and passion for music. Eva Knardahl studied at the Oslo Conservatory of Music, where she received her diploma in 1949. She continued her studies in Paris with the renowned pianist Marguerite Long. She also studied with other famous pianists such as Wilhelm Kempff and Edwin Fischer. Eva Knardahl made her debut as a soloist in 1950, performing with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra. She quickly gained recognition for her exceptional talent and became one of the most prominent pianists in Norway. She performed extensively throughout Europe, the United States, and Asia, collaborating with many famous conductors and orchestras. One of the highlights of Eva Knardahl's career was her performance of Grieg's Piano Concerto in A minor with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra in 1958. Her interpretation of the piece was highly praised, and it became one of her signature pieces. She also recorded the concerto several times, including a critically acclaimed version with the London Symphony Orchestra. Eva Knardahl was also known for her performances of the works of other Norwegian composers, such as Johan Halvorsen, Geirr Tveitt, and Fartein Valen. She was a champion of Norwegian music and helped to bring it to a wider audience through her performances and recordings. In addition to her solo career, Eva Knardahl was also a dedicated chamber musician. She performed with many renowned musicians, including the violinist Arve Tellefsen and the cellist Truls Mørk. She was a member of the Oslo Trio, which was formed in 1961 and performed together for over 20 years. Eva Knardahl was the recipient of many awards and honors throughout her career. In 1963, she was awarded the Norwegian Music Critics' Prize for her recording of Grieg's Lyric Pieces. She was also awarded the King's Medal of Merit in gold in 1987 for her contributions to Norwegian music. Eva Knardahl continued to perform and record well into her 70s. She recorded her final album, a collection of Grieg's Lyric Pieces, in 2001, just a few years before her death. She passed away on October 19, 2006, at the age of 79. Eva Knardahl was a highly respected and beloved figure in the world of classical music.
