Artist Info
Genre:ChamberChoralEnsemble Baroque de Limoges is a French classical music ensemble that specializes in Baroque music. The ensemble was founded in 1979 by Christophe Coin, a French cellist and conductor, who remains the artistic director of the ensemble to this day. The ensemble's founding was inspired by a desire to explore the rich and diverse repertoire of Baroque music, which had been largely neglected in France at the time. Coin assembled a group of like-minded musicians who shared his passion for this music, and together they began to perform and record works by composers such as Bach, Handel, Vivaldi, and Rameau. Over the years, the ensemble has grown in size and reputation, and has become one of the leading Baroque ensembles in Europe. Its members are drawn from some of the finest musicians in France and beyond, and include specialists in period instruments such as the harpsichord, the viola da gamba, and the baroque flute. One of the highlights of the ensemble's early years was its collaboration with the French conductor Jean-Claude Malgoire, who was a pioneer in the revival of Baroque music in France. Together, they recorded a number of critically acclaimed albums, including Handel's "Messiah" and Rameau's "Les Indes Galantes". In the years since, the ensemble has continued to perform and record extensively, both in France and internationally. It has collaborated with a wide range of artists, including the soprano Sandrine Piau, the tenor Ian Bostridge, and the conductor William Christie. One of the ensemble's most notable achievements was its recording of Bach's complete Brandenburg Concertos, which was released in 2000 to widespread critical acclaim. The recording was praised for its clarity, precision, and musicality, and has since become a benchmark for performances of this iconic work. In addition to its recordings, the ensemble has also performed at some of the world's most prestigious concert halls and festivals, including the Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris, the Salzburg Festival, and the BBC Proms in London. Its performances have been praised for their energy, passion, and technical excellence, and have won the ensemble a loyal following of fans around the world. Over the years, the ensemble has received numerous awards and accolades for its work. In 1992, it was awarded the Grand Prix du Disque for its recording of Rameau's "Les Indes Galantes", and in 2001 it received the Diapason d'Or for its recording of Bach's Brandenburg Concertos. In 2010, it was awarded the Victoire de la Musique Classique, one of France's highest honors for classical music. Despite its many achievements, the ensemble remains committed to its original mission of exploring and celebrating the rich and diverse repertoire of Baroque music. Its performances and recordings continue to inspire and delight audiences around the world, and its members remain dedicated to preserving and promoting this timeless music for generations to come.More....
