Period:ModernGenre:OperaEnrique Baquerizo was a renowned classical music artist who was born on January 15, 1925, in Guayaquil, Ecuador. He was the son of a prominent lawyer and politician, and his family was well-known in the city. From a young age, Baquerizo showed a keen interest in music, and his parents encouraged him to pursue his passion. Baquerizo began his musical education at the age of six, when he started taking piano lessons with a local teacher. He quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument, and his parents decided to send him to study in Europe. In 1936, at the age of 11, Baquerizo traveled to Paris to study at the Conservatoire de Paris. He studied under some of the most renowned piano teachers of the time, including Alfred Cortot and Marguerite Long. Baquerizo's time in Paris was interrupted by the outbreak of World War II, and he was forced to return to Ecuador in 1940. However, he continued his musical education in his home country, studying with the renowned Ecuadorian composer Luis H. Salgado. Baquerizo also began performing in public, giving his first concert in Guayaquil in 1941. In 1943, Baquerizo traveled to the United States to continue his studies at the Juilliard School in New York City. He studied under the famous pianist and teacher Rosina Lhévinne, and he quickly established himself as a talented performer. Baquerizo made his debut at Carnegie Hall in 1945, performing Beethoven's Piano Concerto No. 3 with the New York Philharmonic. Baquerizo's career continued to flourish in the years that followed. He performed with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the London Symphony Orchestra, the Berlin Philharmonic, and the Vienna Philharmonic. He also recorded extensively, making over 50 recordings of works by composers such as Beethoven, Chopin, and Rachmaninoff. Baquerizo was known for his virtuosic playing and his ability to bring out the emotional depth of the music he performed. He was particularly admired for his interpretations of the works of Chopin, and he was often compared to the great Chopin interpreters of the past, such as Arthur Rubinstein and Vladimir Horowitz. Baquerizo received many awards and honors throughout his career. In 1952, he was awarded the Ecuadorian National Prize for Music, and in 1960 he was awarded the Order of Merit by the Ecuadorian government. He was also a recipient of the Order of the Rising Sun, one of Japan's highest honors, for his contributions to the promotion of Japanese music. Baquerizo continued to perform and record well into his later years. He gave his last concert in 1995, at the age of 70, and he passed away in 2003 at the age of 78. He left behind a legacy as one of the greatest classical pianists of the 20th century, and his recordings continue to be admired by music lovers around the world.More....
