He also composed music for the theater, including zarzuelas, which are a type of Spanish operetta. His first zarzuela, "El Agüelo," was performed in 1852 and was a great success. This led to more commissions for zarzuelas, and Arrieta became one of the most popular composers of this genre in Spain. One of Arrieta's most famous zarzuelas is "Marina," which was first performed in 1855. The opera tells the story of a sailor who falls in love with a young woman named Marina. The music is lively and romantic, and the opera became a huge success in Spain and throughout Europe. "Marina" is still performed today and is considered one of the greatest zarzuelas of all time. Arrieta also composed music for the theater, including the opera "La Conquista di Granata," which was first performed in 1871. The opera tells the story of the conquest of Granada by the Catholic monarchs, Ferdinand and Isabella.
