Born on December 23, 1943, in Paris, France, Pidoux showed an early interest in music and began playing the cello at the age of six. He studied at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris, where he was a student of André Navarra and Maurice Gendron. Pidoux's talent and dedication to music were evident from an early age, and he quickly established himself as a rising star in the classical music world. He won several prestigious awards and competitions, including the Grand Prix du Concours International de Genève in 1966 and the Prix de la Fondation de la Vocation in 1967. Throughout his career, Pidoux performed with some of the world's most renowned orchestras and conductors, including the Orchestre National de France, the London Symphony Orchestra, and the Berlin Philharmonic. He also collaborated with many distinguished musicians, such as pianist Martha Argerich and violinist Gidon Kremer. One of Pidoux's most notable performances was his rendition of the Bach Cello Suites, which he recorded in 1985. The recording received critical acclaim and is considered one of the definitive interpretations of the suites. Pidoux's other notable recordings include works by Beethoven, Brahms, and Schumann. In addition to his performing career, Pidoux was also a dedicated music educator. He taught at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Paris and the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where he mentored many young musicians who went on to have successful careers in the music industry. Pidoux was also a passionate advocate for contemporary music and premiered many new works by contemporary composers. He was particularly interested in the music of French composer Henri Dutilleux and worked closely with him on several projects. Throughout his career, Pidoux received numerous awards and honors for his contributions to the world of classical music. In 1993, he was awarded the Chevalier de l'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres by the French government, and in 2001, he was awarded the Médaille d'Or de la Ville de Paris. Pidoux continued to perform and teach until his death on January 12, 2019, at the age of 75.
