Jean Kopperud is a renowned clarinetist and contemporary music performer who has made a significant contribution to the world of classical music. Born in 1958 in the United States, Kopperud grew up in a family of musicians and was exposed to music from a young age. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a singer, which influenced her love for music. Kopperud began playing the clarinet at the age of nine and quickly showed a natural talent for the instrument. She went on to study at the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York, where she earned her Bachelor of Music degree. She then continued her studies at the Yale School of Music, where she received her Master of Music degree. In 1995, she was awarded a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, which allowed her to commission new works for the clarinet.
