Birth:December 5, 1989 in Yuzhno-Sakhalinsk, RussiaJulia Lezhneva is a Russian soprano who has gained international recognition for her exceptional vocal abilities and captivating performances. Born on April 5, 1989, in Zelenodolsk, Tatarstan, Russia, Lezhneva showed an early interest in music and began singing in a local choir at the age of five. Her parents recognized her talent and encouraged her to pursue a career in music. Lezhneva began her formal music education at the Kazan State Conservatory, where she studied under the guidance of Professor Larisa Gergieva. She quickly distinguished herself as a gifted singer, winning several competitions and awards, including the Grand Prix at the International Festival of Classical Music in Moscow in 2004. In 2007, Lezhneva was accepted into the vocal department of the Moscow State Tchaikovsky Conservatory, where she continued her studies with Professor Marina Klimova. During her time at the conservatory, Lezhneva participated in numerous concerts and performances, showcasing her exceptional vocal range and technical skill. Lezhneva's breakthrough came in 2010 when she won the prestigious Elena Obraztsova International Competition of Young Opera Singers. This victory opened the doors to a number of high-profile engagements, including performances at the Bolshoi Theatre in Moscow and the Mariinsky Theatre in St. Petersburg. Lezhneva's international career took off in 2011 when she made her debut at the Salzburg Festival, performing the role of Giunia in Mozart's opera "Lucio Silla." Her performance was widely praised, with critics noting her "angelic voice" and "dazzling coloratura." This success led to engagements at other major opera houses, including the Royal Opera House in London, the Teatro Real in Madrid, and the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In addition to her opera performances, Lezhneva has also established herself as a leading interpreter of Baroque music. She has collaborated with some of the world's most renowned Baroque ensembles, including Il Giardino Armonico, Concerto Köln, and the Venice Baroque Orchestra. Her recordings of Baroque works, including Handel's "Il trionfo del tempo e del disinganno" and Vivaldi's "Griselda," have received critical acclaim and earned her numerous awards, including the Echo Klassik Award and the Diapason d'Or. Lezhneva's repertoire extends beyond Baroque and classical music, and she has performed works by contemporary composers such as Arvo Pärt and John Tavener. She is also a passionate advocate for Russian music, and has performed works by composers such as Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, and Shostakovich. Throughout her career, Lezhneva has received numerous awards and accolades for her exceptional talent and artistry. In addition to the Elena Obraztsova International Competition, she has won the International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition, the International Opera Awards' Young Singer of the Year, and the Moscow Music Critics' Award for Best Female Singer.
