Role:EnsembleAurora Orchestra is a British classical music ensemble that was founded in 2004 by conductor Nicholas Collon. The orchestra is known for its innovative and dynamic approach to classical music, often incorporating elements of theater, dance, and multimedia into its performances. The birth of Aurora Orchestra can be traced back to Collon's time as a student at Cambridge University, where he founded the Cambridge University Musical Society Orchestra. After graduating, Collon went on to study conducting at the Royal Academy of Music in London, where he continued to develop his vision for a new kind of classical music ensemble. In 2004, Collon founded Aurora Orchestra with a group of like-minded musicians who shared his passion for exploring new ways of presenting classical music. The orchestra quickly gained a reputation for its innovative programming and dynamic performances, and it wasn't long before it began to attract attention from audiences and critics alike. One of the highlights of Aurora Orchestra's early years was its performance of Mozart's complete piano concertos, which took place over the course of two seasons at London's Kings Place concert hall. The orchestra's approach to the concertos was highly unconventional, with Collon and the musicians performing the works from memory and incorporating elements of theater and dance into the performances. The success of the Mozart project helped to establish Aurora Orchestra as one of the most exciting and innovative classical music ensembles in the UK. In the years that followed, the orchestra continued to push the boundaries of classical music performance, collaborating with artists from a wide range of disciplines and experimenting with new ways of presenting classical music to audiences. One of the most notable collaborations in Aurora Orchestra's history was its partnership with the choreographer Wayne McGregor, which resulted in a series of performances that combined classical music with contemporary dance. The collaboration culminated in a performance of Stravinsky's Rite of Spring at the Royal Festival Hall in London, which was widely praised for its innovative approach to the work. In addition to its collaborations with other artists, Aurora Orchestra has also been recognized for its own musical achievements. In 2012, the orchestra won the Royal Philharmonic Society's Ensemble Award, which is one of the most prestigious awards in classical music. The award recognized Aurora Orchestra's "innovative programming, imaginative presentation, and exceptional musicianship." Since winning the award, Aurora Orchestra has continued to go from strength to strength, with a busy schedule of performances and collaborations both in the UK and internationally. The orchestra's commitment to innovation and experimentation has helped to make it one of the most exciting and dynamic classical music ensembles in the world today.More....
