Role:EnsembleGenre:CrossoverOrchestralThe Knights is a classical music ensemble that was founded in 1999 by a group of young musicians who were passionate about exploring new ways of presenting classical music to audiences. The ensemble is based in New York City and is known for its innovative programming, collaborative approach, and high-energy performances. The founding members of The Knights were a group of friends who had met while studying at the Juilliard School in New York City. They were all accomplished musicians who had already begun to establish themselves in the classical music world, but they were looking for a way to break free from the traditional constraints of the classical music scene. They wanted to create a more dynamic and interactive experience for audiences, one that would showcase the versatility and creativity of classical music. The Knights began as a loose collective of musicians who would come together to perform in various venues around New York City. They quickly gained a reputation for their innovative programming, which included everything from classical masterpieces to contemporary works, as well as collaborations with artists from other genres such as jazz, folk, and world music. In 2007, The Knights became an official ensemble with a core group of musicians who perform together regularly. The ensemble is led by artistic directors Colin Jacobsen and Eric Jacobsen, who are brothers and both accomplished musicians in their own right. Colin is a violinist and composer, while Eric is a cellist and conductor. Together, they bring a unique vision and energy to The Knights, and have helped to establish the ensemble as one of the most exciting and innovative groups in classical music today. Over the years, The Knights have performed at some of the world's most prestigious venues, including Carnegie Hall, the Lincoln Center, and the Barbican Centre in London. They have also collaborated with some of the most renowned artists in classical music, including Yo-Yo Ma, Dawn Upshaw, and Gil Shaham. One of the highlights of The Knights' career was their performance at the 2011 BBC Proms in London. The ensemble performed a program of works by Beethoven, Stravinsky, and Golijov, and received rave reviews for their energy and virtuosity. The performance was broadcast live on BBC Radio 3, and helped to establish The Knights as a major force in classical music. In addition to their performances, The Knights have also received numerous awards and accolades for their recordings. Their debut album, "New Worlds," was released in 2011 and received critical acclaim for its innovative programming and virtuosic performances. The album was nominated for a Grammy Award in the Best Small Ensemble Performance category, and helped to establish The Knights as one of the most exciting and innovative ensembles in classical music. Since their founding, The Knights have remained committed to their mission of exploring new ways of presenting classical music to audiences. They continue to push the boundaries of the genre, collaborating with artists from other genres and experimenting with new forms of presentation. Their innovative approach has helped to attract new audiences to classical music, and has inspired a new generation of musicians to explore the possibilities of the genre.More....
