Role:EnsembleGenre:ChamberAbsolute Ensemble is a contemporary classical music group that was founded in 1993 by Kristjan Järvi, a conductor and composer from Estonia. The ensemble is known for its innovative approach to classical music, blending elements of jazz, rock, and world music into their performances. Järvi was born into a family of musicians, and he began studying music at a young age. He went on to study conducting at the Vienna Music Academy and the Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia. After completing his studies, Järvi worked as an assistant conductor with the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra and the Los Angeles Philharmonic. In 1993, Järvi founded Absolute Ensemble in New York City. The group's name reflects their commitment to breaking down the barriers between different musical genres and creating a truly "absolute" form of music. The ensemble's early performances were characterized by their eclectic mix of styles, with Järvi conducting a group of musicians that included classical instrumentalists, jazz musicians, and rock guitarists. One of the ensemble's early highlights was their performance at the 1996 Montreux Jazz Festival in Switzerland. The group's energetic and innovative approach to classical music won them critical acclaim, and they were soon invited to perform at other major festivals and venues around the world. Over the years, Absolute Ensemble has collaborated with a wide range of musicians and artists, including the jazz pianist Uri Caine, the singer-songwriter Rufus Wainwright, and the choreographer Karole Armitage. The group has also recorded several albums, including "Absolute Mix," which features their signature blend of classical, jazz, and rock music. In 2007, Absolute Ensemble was awarded the German Record Critics' Award for their album "Absolute Zawinul," which pays tribute to the jazz fusion pioneer Joe Zawinul. The album features arrangements of some of Zawinul's most famous compositions, including "Birdland" and "Mercy, Mercy, Mercy." Another highlight of the ensemble's career was their performance at the 2012 London Olympics, where they played at the opening ceremony of the Paralympic Games. The group's performance, which included a mix of classical and contemporary music, was widely praised for its energy and creativity. Today, Absolute Ensemble continues to push the boundaries of classical music, blending different styles and genres to create a truly unique sound. The group's commitment to innovation and experimentation has won them a dedicated following of fans around the world, and they remain one of the most exciting and dynamic classical music groups of our time.More....
