Susan Narucki is a renowned American soprano and contemporary music specialist. She was born in 1960 in Los Angeles, California, and grew up in a family of musicians. Her father was a jazz pianist, and her mother was a singer and music teacher. Narucki began singing at a young age and showed a natural talent for music. Narucki received her Bachelor of Music degree from the University of California, San Diego, where she studied with the renowned soprano, Janice Harsanyi. She then went on to earn her Master of Music degree from the Manhattan School of Music, where she studied with Patricia McCaffrey. Narucki's career as a classical music artist began in the 1980s, and she quickly established herself as a leading soprano in the contemporary music scene. She has worked with many of the world's leading composers, including John Adams, Kaija Saariaho, and Steve Reich, and has premiered numerous works written specifically for her voice. One of Narucki's most notable performances was her portrayal of the lead role in John Adams' opera, "The Death of Klinghoffer," which premiered in 1991. The opera, which tells the story of the hijacking of the Achille Lauro cruise ship by Palestinian terrorists in 1985, was controversial and sparked protests from some members of the Jewish community. Narucki's performance was widely praised for its emotional depth and sensitivity. In addition to her work in contemporary music, Narucki has also performed extensively in the classical repertoire. She has appeared with many of the world's leading orchestras, including the New York Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Philharmonic, and the London Symphony Orchestra. She has also performed in many of the world's leading opera houses, including the Metropolitan Opera, the Royal Opera House, and the Paris Opera.
