Andris Nelsons is a Latvian conductor who has become one of the most sought-after conductors in the classical music world. He was born on November 18, 1978, in Riga, Latvia, to a family of musicians. His father, Voldemars Nelsons, was a conductor, and his mother, Baiba Nelsons, was a pianist. Andris grew up surrounded by music and began playing the piano at the age of five. Andris Nelsons studied at the Latvian Academy of Music, where he studied conducting with Uldis Lipskis. He also studied trumpet and played in the Latvian National Opera Orchestra.
